Every point on the map and every card in the list below marks a documented jackpot — the actual city and, where publicly disclosed, the specific store that sold the winning ticket. Filtering by game, prize size, state, or year narrows both the map and the list together, so you can, for example, see only Mega Millions jackpots over $500 million won in the last few years, or every jackpot ever claimed in a specific state. Clicking a state on the map applies that state as a filter automatically.
A state or region showing more winners on this map is almost always a reflection of population and ticket sales, not a "luckier" location. States with more people buy more tickets, and more tickets sold means more chances for that state to eventually produce a jackpot winner — the same logic as a coin flipped more times landing on heads more often in raw count, even though each individual flip still has 50/50 odds. Every ticket, everywhere, carries identical odds for the game being played; nothing about where a ticket is purchased changes the probability of it winning.
Jackpot winners are typically announced by the state lottery within days of coming forward to claim, though the exact timeline varies — some states allow winners to remain anonymous or delay a public announcement, which is why a small number of entries above show "Anonymous" instead of a name.
